Mel Gibson thinks “everybody deserves a second chance”

This blog discusses the thoughts on second chances of a fallen actor/producer, Mel Gibson. Mel Gibson was recently casted as a Bangkok Tattoo artist in the upcoming film “The Hangover 2”. However, cast and crew members had much to say about this. After finding the cast and crew’s disgust with working with Mel Gibson, the director cut him from the film entirely. Mel Gibson was looking forward to this role as his comeback role in his acting career, and as you could imagine he was pretty upset by the news. One of Gibson’s sources told us, “ He doesn’t understand why Mike Tyson, a drug user who turned his life around, was given a chance while Mel was kicked to the curb. Everybody deserves a second chance.”
Is it possible that Mel Gibson is being hypocritical towards Mr. Tyson when he doesn’t have the best background/ media image either? The blog brings up Mr. Gibson’s mistakes from the past such as his DUI, history of Anti-Semitism, his poor apologies to the Jews, racism, and sexism. Not so innocent Mel now are we?

  1. I don't know much about Mike Tyson's background, but I do know some about Mel Gibson's. It seems like Mel is trying to point the spotlight away from himself in any way he can. In this case, he points it to Tyson. He's trying to say that other people have done things wrong, so why should people judge him for doing things wrong? I think he should step up to the plate and admit all that he has done is wrong, and then take steps to fix it rather than compare himself to other people.

  2. In my opinion, Mel needs to look at his life and look at his choices. He can't sit there pointing the finger of shame at others when he has done far worse things. I feel as if he thinks that because he said some half-assed apology, he is sin free in the eyes of the public. Well news flash Mel, you're not! So i suggest kissing butt and working on yourself. Flimsy tape and Elmer's glue aren't going to fix this, you need concrete.

  3. Mel Gibson never stated that he was innocent. He said that he doesnt understand why he cannot be given a chance when someone who also did wrong and negative things in his life was given a second chance. Gibson is a great actor and has worked on many films. I believe that his past should give him some sort of credit. He is trying to turn his life around but that is difficult to do when you have no one around you who is supportive. I don't think that the cast and crew's opinions should have total control over the outcome of the movie. They don't know him on a personal level, they are just going off of what the media is stating. They don't know his side of the story. I do not think that Gibson should have been cut from this movie, I think that he should have been given a second chance because his actions had nothing to do with his acting career.

  4. There is no reason to focus on anyone but yourself when it comes to your work and your passion in life. Obviously Mel wants to redeem himself, but pointing fingers at others while he continues to behave poorly is not helping his image nor his redemption. If he really was focused on getting his career back on track, he wouldn't be concerned about what other people are doing or saying. His focus should be on himself and how he can improve.

  5. I think that if we're going to put Mel Gibson's life and every choice he's made under a microscope, then we should do the same for every single person in the world.
For example; let's start with the DUI issue.
Mel Gibson is held accountable for this, though statistically speaking, around 1.3 million DUIs occur each year in the U.S. If we are going to be so critical of Mel then we should do the same for the other 1,396,887 people.
As for the antisemitism, we need to broaden the spectrum just a tad. If every single person's actions were monitored as closely as a celebrity's, then I'm sure racial injustice would be at such an epidemic level that we would entirely overlook Mel.
We hold celebrity's to such a high standard that you might as well consider their large payroll to be partially due to having metaphorical heat-seeking missiles on them at all hours of the day. If the everyday citizen were under the same watch, so many people would be cast aside just as Mel was.

  6. When ever Mel Gibson is brought up in conversation I have mixed thoughts and feelings. I am jewish and I've heard some of the things that he has said about my relgion and other fellow jews. I find Mel to be a very immiture guy. I feel like a young teenager would say the types of things he has said in the past. As an adult, especially a famous adult, Mel needs to realize that every action and word he says will be analyzed. I have to agree with the producers of The Hangover 2. I'm sure they would have lost out on some money if they left Mel in the film since I believe some people would refuse to see the movie since he is in it. It's time for him to realize that when you are famous you need to think before you speak.

  7. Lashing out after one event isn't going to help his situation. Part of redeeming yourself is accepting the consequences. People's reactions and opinions of him now are part of those consequences. He can't expect people to just welcome him back with open arms. It's an up-hill struggle for him, as it should be. The best way to go about it would be to accept the director's decision, move on, and show some humility. He isn't going to get very far by acting as though he's better than other people. There wasn't any point in bringing Mike Tyson into anything.

  8. Bringing Mike Tyson into the situation doesn't help Mel Gibson in any way. Instead of spending time complaining about Tyson, Mel Gibson should be taking the time to change himself. It's his own fault that the cast and crew didn't want to work with him and that should be a red flag that Mel needs to fix his life. He shouldn't expect everyone to treat him the same after all of his racist and anti-seministic comments and the horrible way he treated his ex-girlfriend. In order for Mel to earn a second chance from the acting community and the rest of the world, he must change to become a better person and so far I'm not seeing any signs of change.

  9. It's very interesting how Mel Gibson “ doesn’t understand why Mike Tyson, a drug user who turned his life around, was given a chance while [he] was kicked to the curb." The operating phrase in there seems to be "turned his life around." Mel Gibson never turned his life around, from what I've seen in the media, it's just scandal after scandal with Mel Gibson. I haven't heard anything bad about Mike Tyson in the media recently. Gibson has apologized for his remarks against Jews, but then he just comes back and makes some other anti-semitic remark. So, it seems like Mel Gibson has not changed anything and is not showing anyone that he is making an effort. This is the real difference between him and Tyson. I think that people do deserve a second chance, when it is obvious that they are going to do something with that second chance. However, it's hard to keep giving out chances to Mel Gibson when it seems like the same pattern continuously.

  10. It seems that Mel Gibson is trying to put the blame on others rather than himself. He needs to take responsibility for his wrong doings, say he is sorry, and then give people time to process it. Some people do not forgive easy, like the public. So in order to re-gain their trust, Mel Gibson needs to show that he has changed, and then he can have a come back. By getting mad about not being able to have a come back, he is just proving that he is still the same old Mel Gibson that the public dislikes.

  11. I understand why Mel is upset. If he wants a second chance and he believes he will have a comeback, not only in his acting career, but in his life in general, then he should continue to work towards it. He isn't neccessarily pointing fingers at anyone he just is somewhat annoyed that others have been given a second chance and he has not. In my opinion, he deserves to suffer for a little and he shouldn't get it that easy, but I hope that Mel can succeed in the future and become a better person despite his numerous prior mistakes.

  12. I don't know Mel Gibson at all. However, from this blog, it seems that he did something wrong but what he did after this wrong thing is finding excuses of it. He said "everybody deserve a second chance" which is more than excuse. He mentioned that he was confusing why Mike Tyson, a drug user who was given a chance while he was not. It seems like he want to notice people that he should be given a second chance, too.

  13. I think that it is non-sense that the cast and crew have such an issue with Mel Gibson. I think that people deserve second chances, although, Mel should sincerely apologize for the mistakes he has made. Maybe, then, people will not react with such negativity towards him. In order to receive sympathy, Mel should try showing some sympathy towards the people he has affected in negative ways.

  14. Seeing that Mel Gibson does not have that spectacular of a past, I can understand the cast and crew of The Hangover 2's disinterest with working with him, but to cut him entirely would be reserved to if he truly did something extraordinarily wrong, which, with his record, he very well could have done.

  16. I don't think Mel Gibson deserve a second chance.Acting as a celebrity, to some extend, Mel Gibson is a spotlight for the public, and some youth even will look him as a standard. However, he knew he was wrong, but he did not make apology to the public and even found fault with the other. He kind of likes to say: "why Tyson made the mistake with me, but he could get the second chance, why couldn't I? I deserved the second chance, too." His attitude toward the wrongness he made is really bad, so that I don't think he deserve the second chance.

  17. I feel that Mel Gibson could have have reacted more appropriately to his removal, pointing out others mistakes does not show maturity. While he does deserve a second chance, I feel that he could have reacted more appropriately and expressed remorse for his past actions rather than blame others.
