This blog talks about Christina Agruilera’s possible second chance to sing the national anthem correctly. Millions of Americans tuned in last Sunday to watch one of the year’s greatest sporting events, the Super Bowl. For Super Bowl XLV, they had Christina Aguilera sing the nation anthem. Mid way through the song, she fumbled, and messed up the lyrics. Some are saying now that Christina is un-American for this mess up. And others want to give her a second chance and let her redeem herself. The Brooklyn Cyclones are offering Christina a re-do at the national anthem during their game on the 19th. Is Christina worthy of this second chance? Does Christina’s word fumble make her un-American?

The source in particular seems to over exaggerate the event entirely. It's claiming that she created a new line, or to be precise "she made up a line".
ReplyDeleteWith close examination to the lyrics to the Star-Spangled Banner, one will find that one of the lines reads "What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming". The difference between this line which she had previously sung and what she said in place of the actual line, was merely watched subbed for hailed. She didn't make up the words; they make it seem as though she's un-American and clearly doesn't know the words.
This to me is nothing more than a simple mistake, under such pressure I too would struggle to keep my cool and utter the words in the exact order.
Christina Aguilera is human just like the rest of us. Everybody makes mistakes and she most definitely deserves another chance. I bet she was extra nervous singing in front of a huge crowd at the super bowl and her slight mess up does not make her un-American. All of the words she sang are in the song, but she just mixed them around so she actually didn't make up any words. Under this immense pressure, there are probably very few Americans who could perfectly sing the national anthem without having to read the lyrics off a screen. Also, she probably knew she messed up when she was singing and I thought she handled herself well by continuing to sing the rest of the song correctly like a true performer. I'm glad Christina is being given a second chance to sing the national anthem so people will stop criticizing her.
ReplyDeleteChristina shouldn't have messed up the Star Spangled Banner. It is THE American song to not mess up, but she managed. I don't think she should get a second chance because it's unnecessary. She messed up, she knows it and America knows it, so a redo is pointless. Everyone messes up in life at one point or another, she just happened to do it in front of hundreds of people. If anything, she made watching the super bowl that much more interesting. If she needed a second chance I would say sure give her one, but I don’t think she really needs it after such an obvious screw up. She didn’t do it on purpose.
ReplyDeleteAs a fellow musician, I would give Christina Aguilera a second chance. There’s a great deal of pressure weather you are performing in front of a small audience in a bar or in front of all of America. If I had a count of every time I’ve messed up a song at a gig I’m sure it would be at least 10. I know what you’re thinking, “but it’s the National Anthem!” Sure it’s the song of America but it’s not the first time that someone has messed it up. Just a few weeks ago on Tosh.O, Tosh did web redemption on a girl that did the same thing as Christina Aguilera and everyone laughed about it. All in all it’s just a poem put to the tune of an old English drinking song, and if someone messes it up the should have every right to sing it again.
ReplyDeleteChristina Aguilera is a very talented singer who has been singing and performing since she was a little girl. However, everyone still gets nervous sometimes and this was probably the biggest audience she has sung in front of. The Super Bowl is the most watched game in the United States! I think she had a right to maybe have a little stage fright and missed a few lines; she didn't make up the words. But she didn't let the fact that she did mess up the National Anthem get to her, she finished big and strong and kept going like nothing was wrong. I think she deserves another chance to sing it again.
ReplyDeleteI think she absolutely deserves a second chance. She performed in front of one of the largest audiences you could have, and hey, it could have been worse ! (Keep Janet Jackson in mind...) Although the national anthem is an obviously important and meaningful part of sporting events, she is human. People make slip ups and performance mistakes every day! A second chance for her to redeem herself should be expected.
ReplyDeleteThe fact this is even brought up is absolutely ridiculous. She messed up singing a song on national television. There is so much pressure put on this girl to sound good of course she may forget the words to a song, even if it is our national anthem. She is not “un-American” she just got nervous and mixed up her lyrics. To be honest I would probably do the same thing, not that I should ever be in the position of singing in the Super Bowl.. She made a mistake let’s just all move past it.
ReplyDeleteIn no way is she un-American. Everyone is prone to choking under pressure no matter how much experience you have. I believe she would deserve a second chance, not for singing in another Super Bowl, but at lease a chance to move on without this mistake haunting her for the rest of her life.
ReplyDeleteI don't think messing up a song can make you Un-American.People mess up sometimes, especially under pressure. I honestly didn't even notice that she messed it up when I was listening, though I wasn't paying very much attention. I feel like it was blown out of proportion and she should be given a second chance.
ReplyDeleteI personally think this entire blog about Christian Aguilera a waste of time. She messed up on the words to the national anthem and now people are calling her un-American? Everybody makes mistakes. Unfortunately Christian's unfortunate mistake was broadcasted to millions of viewers all over the country. Yes it is embarrassing but it absolutely doesn't make her a bad American. I've seen plenty of videos of people messing up the national anthem. I think the people who spend their time writing on the website that was provided to us need to worry about other things that are going on in our country and world today.
ReplyDeleteI don't think people really think about what they say before they say it. Specifically the people that called Christina Aguilera un-American. Singing the National Anthem is a big deal, especially at the superbowl when most literally the entire nation was watching her sing. She was probably insanely nervous, as I think anyone would be, not to mention the national anthem is one of the most difficult songs to sing period. She is not the first person to fumble during the national anthem. I'm sure she knows thew words, but nerves probably got to her.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, I think Christina Aguilera should be given a second chance. But it is also necessary to alert her so that she would not do this again. She messed up the Star Spangled Banner on national TV which brought a bad social influence. However, we should give her a second chance since no one is perfect. So do Christina, especially when she was singing for so much people. She maybe so nervous that made this mistake. It is not that serious and people call her un-American is a little overdo.
ReplyDeleteIt definitely doesn't make her un-American because she messed up the National Anthem. I don't it's so much a matter of if she should get a second chance or not, but whether investors still trust her. She's a professional. She's hired to perform and shouldn't mess up the lyrics to any song, let alone the Start Spangled Banner. I don't think it particularly matters if she ever gets to sing it again; she wouldn't mess it up twice. If people still want to hire her, then that's their decision.
ReplyDeleteI think she absolutely deserve a second chance. First, she messed up probably because she was too nervous. Everyone has his or her moment being so nervous that mess up in a very important situation. What's more, sing a National Anthem is such a big thing,it's reasonable for her to sing a wrong lyrics. If she was given second chance, i believe she will perform better.
ReplyDeleteEveryone makes mistakes and nerves only make things worse. She was performing for the Super Bowl which had millions of viewers and, although it was embarrassing for her to mess up the lyrics, her mistake does not make her un-American. Furthermore, she should be given the opportunity to sing the national anthem again if she wants to, but it should not be forced upon her. Everyone can sing the national anthem, she should not have to prove to everyone that she really does know the words.
ReplyDeleteEven though Christina has performed in front of thousands of people before, nerves probably had something to do with it. I know the words to the song, but if I had to perform in front of millions of viewers, I would probably mess up too. Even if she doesn't know the words, (she probably does, though)it has nothing to do with her not being an American. She should, without question, be given a second chance at singing the national anthem.
ReplyDeleteI think Christina Aguilera deserves a second chance. Undoubtedly, singing in front a great deal of audiences would bring a lot of pressure to Christina Aguilera. Though, she fumbled and messed up the lyrics of National Anthem in the National bowl game, millions of people watching it via TV, she didn't mean to do so by out of personal desire or some purpose that would hurt the other rights. And such mistake could not result to the " un-American" for Christina.
ReplyDeleteI do not feel she should be given a second chance. She was given the opportunity to sing at the Super Bowl and messed up, which, as far as I know, has not been done for a very long time. I feel she should live with her mistake and move on, and discredit whatever media onslaught she encounters.
